Kasese:

Police on Saturday raided Kasese Guide Radio and stopped a talk show in which Forum for Democratic Change president Mugisha Muntu was being hosted.

The Rwenzori regional police commander, Mr Thomas Kasimo, who led the team, claimed Gen Muntu was inciting violence.
“I have instructions from above to order this programme stopped because your presence here is inciting violence,” Mr Kasimo said, sparking off a heated argument between the duo.

“This country is doomed because police officers are already in this studio wanting to order the radio programme off,” Gen Muntu said shortly before Mr Edward Makanika, the host, switched him off the air.
Gen Muntu was in the company of Kasese Woman MP Winfred Kiiza and former Busongora South MP Christopher Kibanzanga.

The opposition leaders were in the district for a joint rally to mobilise residents to support proposed electoral reforms.
But government security agencies blocked them from accessing any public venue in Kasese Municipality.

Outside the studios, Gen Muntu said they were not intending to force any rally or meeting because they wanted Ugandans to be peaceful.
“We had decided not to force our way in any premises. What we are fighting for is public because every day the regime is making more mistakes that makes it naked,” Gen Muntu said.

Ms Kiiza wondered whether there was still any freedom of access to information since their alternative to the public rallies was also blocked.

However, Mr Kasimo said they blocked the rally and radio talk show because they were illegally planned.
Earlier, the FDC leader, his predecessor Kizza Besigye, Mr Olara Otunu (UPC), Mr Norbert Mao (DP) and Bishop (rtd) Zac Niringiye had planned a joint rally in the district but police were heavily deployed to block them from entering the district.

But Gen Muntu beat security and sneaked into Kasese on Friday night.
