Police witness pins Besigye on Kabale violence

KABALE.

The former commander of police Professional Standards Unit (PSU) for Kigezi sub-region, ASP Isaac Mugisha, has testified against former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Dr Kiiza Besigye and his co accused over inciting the public on July 14, 2012.

Dr Besigye and his co-accused were appearing in Kabale Chief Magistrates Court over charges of inciting violence and malicious damage on Monday.

Dr Besigye is accused together with Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago, Kawempe Division South MP Mubaraka Munyagwa, FDC secretary for mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe, Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume Kaginda and Imam Makumbi, the Democratic Party’s vice president western region.

They allegedly incited the public resulting in chaos where four policemen were injured and four police cars pelted with stones, damaging their windscreens.

Mr Mugisha is currently deployed in Mbarara as the PSU commander.
“I did not see the violence myself but I saw the injured persons and the police cars with broken wind screens. I attended the rally and I heard Dr Kizza Besigye telling the people at the rally that change of government in Tunisia came after a single local resident set fire on himself and sparked off the action that later led to the fall of government..,” Mr Mugisha testified.

Presiding judge Samuel Moses Kagoda adjourned the case to August 8.
