Policeman shoots one civilian dead, injures two
KISORO- A Police Constable has shot and killed one person and injured two others in Gikoro village, Nyakabande Sub-county, Kisoro District.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman, Mr Elly Maate said the suspect who is attached to the Field Force Unit at Kisoro Police station, killed Stephen Ngatahorero.
He said that the incident happened on Tuesday at about 10 am. Those who were injured are Desteriyo Munyaneza and Posiano Maniragaba.
Mr Maate explained that the suspect and his two colleagues had gone to visit a crime scene.
On reaching the scene, according to Mr Maate, they found that that it had been tempered with and the police dog could not trace the suspects.
“When the police officers expressed their frustration, the complainant, Mr Gaston Ntamakiriro, allegedly incited residents against the cops. The armed officer scared the violent people who were approaching them in vain,” Mr Maate said. “In the process, he shot and killed one person and injured two others. The policemen escaped from the scene without being harmed.”
He said the injured residents were taken to Mutorele Hospital while the body of the deceased was taken to Kisoro Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem.
Mr Maate said the suspected killer and his colleagues have been arrested.
