Policeman shoots dead 10-year-boy , injures seven

A 10-year-old boy died on spot while eight people escaped with severe injuries in Kasese District after a police officer turned his gun against them.
The incident occurred at around 11pm at a funeral in Kaghorwe , Kyabarungira Sub-county , Busongora North Constituency.
Kyabarungira Sub-county Chairperson Mr Samuel Kithawithe identified the deceased as Isaac Masereka.
The injured include four children and four women all residents of the area.

The children are Mbambu , Felex Bwambale , Wilbert Bwambale , and Juliet Biira all aged between six and 14 years. They are admitted at Kilembe Hospital.
Rwenzori Region Police spokesperson, Ms Lydia Tumushabe confirmed the incident, saying the suspect has been arrested.
“We have launched investigations to establish the circumstances under which the suspect went wild and decided to open fire on innocent members of the public,” Ms Tumushabe said.
According eyewitnesses, the victims were some of the mourners who had gathered at the home of Joules Tsongo a resident, who had passed away hours earlier.

Witnesses say the mourners were sitting around a bonfire place when they saw a police officer arriving at the funeral.
“Without saying anything, the police officer whom we thought had come to provide security opened fire sending the mourners in disarray,” Mr Edison Biryande, a witness said.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the officer had earlier been angered by some residents during at a village football match.
