Politics killing Uganda’s economy - Museveni

ISINGIRO. President Museveni has said excessive politicking that has engulfed the country is consuming time for developmental work and blamed politicians for misleading people into poverty.
Speaking in Isingiro District at the weekend, the President castigated the rural folk for believing in politicians at the expense of increasing household income.
“People should not be diverted too much with politics. The best politics is to improve income in their homes,” Mr Museveni said.
“Those who are keeping you in political talk are okay. They are (economically) well off. For you (politicians), you are okay while those you are leading are poor. Leadership is to guide people and show them the right way,” he said, before calling on the masses to ignore politicians and work hard to liberate themselves from poverty.

‘Museveni impressed’
Mr Museveni was speaking at a wedding ceremony of Mr Tonny Rwamirama and Ms Doreen Kyomugisha in Rwembogo Masha Sub-county. The bridegroom is a son of Maj Bright Rwamirama, the State Minister for Animal Industry.
Mr Museveni said now that there is electricity and good roads across the country, people must use them to earn more money for their families. Mr Museveni said he is now seeing improvement in agriculture projects such as coffee and dairy farms in the countryside.
He added that the government would continue to support economic transformation of rural dwellers through the army veterans who have taken over distribution of agriculture technologies hitherto done under the National Agricultural Advisory Services programme .
Maj Rwamirama praised President Museveni, saying public services such as roads, schools and health facilities have greatly improved under his leadership.
“We are not going to interrupt the pilot. Those (of you) who want to divert the vote, what else do you want with these services we have?” he said.
Mr Museveni donated three heifers inform of cash to the bride and groom.
