Praying for Sheikh Bahiiga's soul: Situation at Kibuli mosque

The Muslim community today is mourning the death of another cleric, Sheikh Mustafa Bahiiga who was on Sunday evening shot dead at the Bwebajja Mosque on Entebbe road.

Mr Bahiiga was shot five times; three bullets in the left limb, one on the head and another in the stomach as he was going for Ishae Prayer, according to the deceased’s daughter Hamidah Akiiki.

The Moslem fraternity is currently gathered at Kibuli mosque to pray for the soul of the deceased sheikh.

Kampala police bosses are also in attendance including IGP Gen Kale Kayihura and Kampala South Regional Police Commander James Ruhweza.

Gen Kayihura arrived at around 11:40am with two trucks carrying police officers and was ushered into the office of the supreme mufti.

At around 11:43am, the people who last associated with the deceased were eulogizing. Kampala district Khadi sheikh Suleiman Ndirangwa took to the podium but broke down not even midway his speech before he was helped off and led away.

Police officers are manning all entrances to the mosque, with female officers dressed in Islamic attire (Hijab) at the different check points.

The male wing of the mosque is full to capacity whereas the female wing was half way full by mid-day. Prominent Islam leaders have not yet registered their presence at the venue.
