Primary seven pupil killed by mob in Butaleja

BUTALEJA: Police in Butaleja District have launched investigations into the killing of a primary seven pupil suspected to be a thief.
The angry mob armed with machetes and stones reportedly clobbered to death Gerald Nahigo, a 17-years-old pupil at Lwamboga p/s in Busaba Sub County in Butaleja District.
The Bukedi region police region spokespersons, Mr Sowali Kamulya confirmed the incident saying Nahigo was killed at Mugulu trading centre in Busolwe Sub County.

“The residents claim that the deceased had stolen a goat. But we have started our investigation to make sure the culprits are arrested and face the law accordingly,” said Mr Kamulya.
He said by the time police arrived at the scene, residents had tied a goat in the deceased’s neck.

“This is a serious matter and we can’t take it for granted,” he said.
In another related incident, an angry mob killed a 31-year-old man in Busia District over theft of a motorcycle.
Mr Kamulya identified the deceased as John Awel, a resident of Amagoro village, Tiira Sub County in Busia District.

“He was killed at Atakwobwait village, Tiira Sub County in the night after suspecting him to have stolen a motorcycle in the same area,” said Mr Kamulya.
Police in Bukedi region have repeatedly decried the increasing cases of mob justice and suicide in Bukedi region.
Mr kamulya warned locals against taking the laws into their hands by lynching people suspected to be thieves. He said no arrest has been made but investigation is till on going to get the culprits.
