Prison warder, inmate arrested over murder

NAKASEKE- Police in Nakaseke District have arrested a prison warder and an inmate who are suspected of having tortured to death an inmate at Wakyato Local Government Prison in NaKaseke District last week.

Chief Warder Henry Eyou was arrested together with an inmate identified as Lawrence Kyakuwa after being implicated by prisoners.

They allegedly tortured to death a one Godfrey Sserwada.

 “We interviewed the prisons staff and inmates at Wakyato Prisons where the Chief Warder Mr Henry Eyou was implicated together with the head of inmates known as Katikiro in the cells,” Savana Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Paul Kangave said. “The Prisoners claimed that the two tortured Sserwada at Wakyato village where the prisoners had gone to get fire wood. They later dragged him to the cell where he collapsed [and died].”

He said the suspects are being held at Kiwoko Police Station in Nakaseke and are likely to be charged with murder after investigations.
