KAMPALA- Prof Lawrence Mukiibi, the proprietor of St Lawrence Schools, is said to be out of danger after he was involved in a motor accident near one of his schools at Nakati on Kampala-Masaka road on Tuesday afternoon.

He is being treated at Norvik Hospital in Kampala.
Officials close to Prof Mukiibi, who preferred anonymity, said his condition had improved and he can ably recognise people.
They said he is being treated for multiple internal injuries.
The Kampala Metropolitan policespokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango, said Mr Moses Bwire, the driver of a pick-up truck, that rammed into Prof Mukiibi’s car, has been arrested on traffic charges.

“We are holding Mr Bwire, who was driving the pick-up truck that caused an accident, on charges of reckless driving. He will be taken to court when the investigations are done,” Mr Onyango said yesterday.

Mr Onyango said they are still monitoring Prof Mukiibi’s health before they prefer charges against Mr Bwire.
The accident occurred at the time when crashes on Masaka Road have reached worrying levels. Mr Onyango said Mr Bwire told them that he lost control of the vehicle when he was avoiding a head-on collision with a taxi that was over taking.

It is then that Mr Bwire rammed into Prof Mukiibi’s car.
The taxi was heading to Kampala from Masaka Town.

Police are still pursuing Mr Muhammed Mawejje, the taxi driver, whom Mr Bwire said led him to veer off the main road. Mr Onyango said they want to talk to Mr Mawejje to help them with the investigations.
