Kalangala RDC, Mr Caleb Tukaikiriza, has banned rally ace Ponsiano Rwakataka from participating in any fishing activity on the island district, saying Mr Rwakataka can only be allowed to resume business after committing himself that he will stop using illegal fishing methods.
The RDC made the directive after inspecting seven tonnes of immature fish believed to belong to Mr Rwakataka that was impounded last week. Two men said to be Mr Rwakataka’s employees were also arrested for allegedly beating up a fisheries officer and guards that attempted to arrest them.
Last week on Wednesday a boat carrying about seven tonnes of immature fish was impounded by Mugoye Sub-county fisheries officer, Fredrick Kagoma at Lukku Landing Site. Two men, Mr Francis Kizito and Mr Kityo Ismail, were arrested after they tried to throw Mr Kagoma into the lake.
When contacted, Mr Rwakataka told the Daily Monitor he had contacted his lawyer, Mr Herbert Zikusooka, to handle the matter, adding no one could get him out of fishing.
