Rape case: Makerere senior staff granted bail

Kampala. Buganda Road Chief magistrate’s court has today granted bail to the interdicted Makerere University faculty registrar charged with attempted rape and indecent assault of a former student.

The accused, Edward Kisuze, a university registrar at the College of Computing and Information Science appeared in a session presided over by the chief magistrate Mr James Ereemye who granted him cash bail of Shs2m.

His three sureties were each granted non-cash bond of Shs10m.

Mr Ereemye has directed prosecution to summon witnesses to appear in court on May 28, 2018 for the hearing to start.

Prosecution contends that the unethical incident happened at Makerere University on April 13, 2018 when the graduate, Rachel Njoroge, showed up to certify her transcript and pick her recommendation letter. She was then referred to room 507 for help.

According to police records Njoroge narrated the encounter with the registrar when she had gone to pick her transcript.

She stated that as she was looking through her transcript, the suspect hurriedly locked the office door and forcibly started romancing her.
