Koboko- Congolese refugees in Koboko District will have to be relocated to Ocheya Rhino Camp in Arua District if they are to get any assistance, an official for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has said.
Ms Salome Ayikoru, the UNHCR desk officer for Arua, said they had already established facilities such as clean water, health centres and a school at Ocheya Rhino Camp.
More than 500 refugees from Congo entered in Uganda last week when the M18 rebel group launched offensive attacks on communities.
Earlier, leaders in Koboko had agreed to host the refugees but had not yet received any basic help like shelter, food and medicine.
Some refugees said they were not ready to be relocated to Arua since some of their colleagues are still in DR Congo.
Uganda Red Cross in Koboko yesterday said it was registering refugees at Midia Youth Centre, a transit centre, for easy coordination of relief intervention.
“The government is encouraging the refugees to come to the centre where aid can be given to them. Red Cross has also been tasked to prepare meals for them,” Ms Catherine Ntabadde the body’s director of communications, said.
