Residents recover bodies of two missing children

Shocked residents at the scene where the bodies were recovered

NAKASEKE- Residents of Butalangu Town Council in Nakaseke District have recovered the remains of two children who went missing from their parents’ home last week.

The bodies of Hajara Nankabirwa (6) and Jamiru Kyakonye (4) were recovered in a maize garden by a farm worker on the Butalangu-Ngoma road.

“The bodies had deep cuts on the throat. Residents are puzzled and the nature of death is very suspicious as most residents link it to ritual murder,” Mr Sam Sserunjogi, the chairperson of Butalangu Town Council said on Wednesday.

Savannah Region Police spokesperson Mr Lameck Kigozi said police are investigating the cause of death of the children who reportedly went missing from the home of their grand mother at Nakonge village in Butalangu Town Council.

“We cannot conclude that it is ritual murder because investigations are ongoing. We have allowed the relatives to bury the remains of these children,” Mr Kigozi said.

Mr Michael Ssalabwa, a resident of Nakonge said the children were reported missing by their grand parent only identified as Nambi on July 20.

Although police say they cannot link the deaths to child sacrifice, the practice has been rampant in various parts of the country in the past.
