Robbers shoot couple for cash but find water melon

  • They are residents of Igabiro Cell, Mwanjari Ward in Southern Division of Kabale Municipality. They were rushed to Kabale Hospital with gunshot wounds. The man was shot in the pelvic area and his wife in the chest.

KABALE- Police in Kabale are investigating an incident where a man and his wife were shot and seriously injured by gunmen riding a motorcycle.

The robbers demanded that the couple surrender a bag they were carrying in anticipation that it contained money. However the thugs were utterly disappointed to find the bag contained water melon. They dumped it in the middle of the road and took off in the opposite direction.

Police spokesman for Kigezi Region Mr Elly Maate said the incident happened at about 9pm on Tuesday.

“The assailants were two men armed with an SMG rifle and dressed in civilian attire. They demanded the polythene bag which the victims were holding and after establishing that the bag contained water melon fruits, they dumped it in the middle of the road and took off on a motorcycle. The police call upon the community to volunteer information about the robbers,” Mr Maate said.
