Robbery, defilement cases top criminal session

KAMPALA- Aggravated robbery and defilement cases topped the list during a new criminal session hearing that kicked off this week before the High Court in Kampala.
In the criminal session that is being presided over by Justice Lydia Mugambe, out of the 40 cases, 15 cases are of aggravated robbery and 14 are of defilement.
Other cases include murder, rape and attempted murder.

Some of the prominent cases in this session is that of Robert Ssempebwa, aka Kazahura, a suspected notorious car robber.
Kazahura and his gang are accused of robbing cars from unspecified victims whom they would eventually murder.

Police records indicate that Kazahura used to deploy beautiful women to lure car owners, at different hangouts including pubs, into their trap.
The alleged Kazahura victims would at the end of a drinking session be persuaded to give the girls a lift back home, with the aim of leading them to death traps.

Another case is that of Ismael Ojok, who is accused of robbing a gun from a police constable Tony Wamala, which charges he denies.
Prosecution contends that on August 20, 2013 at Wampewo round about in Kampala, Ojok robbed the police officer of his gun before causing grievous injuries to him. It is stated that on the same day he (Ojok) used the gun to threaten to kill a one Fred Turyomunsi.

Two suspects Fatuma Katusabe, 30, and Zaituni Kemigisha, 30, also denied charges in connection to dosing a boda boda rider with Chloroform before they robbed him of his motorbike valued at Shs2.5m.
Among the defilement cases includes that of a taxi driver, Hakim Ssozi, 35, accused of defiling a 14-year old girl.
