Police were on Friday involved in a hide and seek game with angry youths who stormed Jinja East Municipality MP Mr Nathan Igeme  Nabeta`s home  with an aim of setting it on fire on.

The youths accuse the legislator of ignoring their interests by supporting the controversial Bill aimed at among other things removing the presidential age limit from the Constitution of Uganda.

“We are seeing MPs everyday    on TVs moving around their constituency consulting the public about the nationwide campaign on the presidential age limit but our MP has not spared time to come on the ground to talk to us about the issue,” said Mr Paul Onyango, one of the youths.

The angry youths before Police dispersed them had already accessed the home of the legislator and started burning the tyres at his gate.

The Kiira Deputy Regional Police Commander Mr Onesimus  Mwesigwa confirmed the incident and said police  arrested  one suspect and more are to be pursued.

Mr Julius Kayira, a councillor in Masese -Walukuba Division  Jinja Municipality  condemned  the action of police dispersing residents without finding out what exactly took place and where.

“You cannot just find a group of people and start teargassing them without finding out what they are doing. Police has disrupted school activities in the area because of the teargas,” said Mr Kayira.

When contacted Mr Igeme said  the youths’ actions cannot  disrupt the plans he has for his voters in the  constituency.

“They have been just  sent by some of  my opponents  in the system which I cannot rule  out. I’m yet to find out. I expected a big number of people (protestors) but to my surprise, they were very few,”Mr Igeme added.
