Health minister Ruhakana Rugunda has been elected as the new chairman of the Kabale University Board of Trustees.
Dr Rugunda, who was elected unopposed, replaces Dr Rama Makuza, whose two-year tenure of office expired on Saturday.

Mr E. S. Balaba, a retired mining engineer, presided over the elections at Kabale University on Saturday where the Rukungiri District chairman, Mr Charles Byabakama, was also elected chairman of the assembly of promoters of the university. He defeated a Kampala-based lawyer Henry Rwaganika.

Mr Balaba, who also presided over the election of other 13 members, appealed to those elected to work hard for the promotion of the university.

The Vice Chancellor Kabale University, Prof Joy Kwesiga, thanked the promoters of the university for the generous support and connections that have helped the institution to grow formidably.
She said the university’s administration was working around the clock for the institution to get a charter.

Prof Fedrick Kayanja, the vice chancellor for Mbarara University of Science and Technology called for transparency if targeted objectives are to be achieved.
