The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party will not have its annual Liberation Day celebrations on the traditional January 26 but rather four days later.

“The secretary of the office of the President informs the general public that the national day celebrations for the victory day of NRM/NRA of January 26, 2013 have been postponed to January 30,” Ms Tecla Kinalwa, the party’s organising committee chairperson, said in a statement on Friday.
This is the first time that the party has not celebrated the event on the date at which it captured power after six years of fighting a guerilla war.

She, however, noted that the venue - Kasese is unchanged and that the relevant officials should take the “necessary adjustments.”

Government denied that recent reports that ADF rebels would attack the country was the reason to postpone the celebrations.
