The Rwenzururu King, Charles Wesley Mumbere has distanced himself from accusations that his kingdom organized the clashes that rocked the Rwenzori region at the weekend, leaving 90 people dead.

The Omusinga said government was chasing a wrong enemy in pointing an accusing finger at him and the kingdom.

Addressing the media at his Palace in Kasese town on Thursday morning, Mr Mumbere also said that he never agreed with President Yoweri Museveni that he would only operate in Kasese.

President Museveni in a statement issued on Tuesday in which he blamed the proponents of the Rwenzururu kingdom for master minding the attacks.

This comes just hours after three top Rwenzururu kingdom officials, including the premier, Noah Nzaghale and Tourism Minister, Mr Mbelamu Erisaniya were arrested and detained at Kasese Central Police Station in connection with the clashes.
