A South African couple has accused the incarcerated Bubulo West legislator of attempting to use them to traffic illicit drugs to Brazil, a South American country.

According to Ms Audrey Dedre, she ended up in Uganda together with her husband, Mr Willem Jacobus Benjamen, at the invite of the Bubulo West Member of Parliament, Kipoi Tonny Nsubuga, whom they met through a friend in South Africa several months ago.

“We have always wanted to come to Uganda. And when we were introduced to Yusuf (the name Mr Kipoi used then), he offered to pay for our air ticket and also said we will be his guests throughout our visit here (in Uganda),” Ms Dedre told journalists at the Police headquarters on Saturday.

“We didn’t know he was called Tony, not until my husband saw a picture of him on a wall in a house he took us to stay in,” Ms Dedre said.

Wrong person
She continued: “At that time we knew we were dealing with a wrong person. And since then my husband got anxiety attack. That is why he is looking rather confused and uneasy.”

According to the Police the two were “rescued” when the police mounted a search at the MP Butabika’s quarters late last year after arresting him on treason charges.

The deputy Police Spokesperson, Mr Vincent Ssekate, said in an interview that the two spouses were stranded and in bad shape.

The police who have since moved them couple to a five star hotel in Kampala, bought them new clothes, footed their medical bills and secured them a return air ticket to South Africa.

Mr Kipoi currently in Luzira Prison, is facing charges of narcotic drug trafficking.
