Ugandan selected for Facebook leadership programme

Ugandan social activist Savio Lule Badangayo was early this week announced as one of the Africans selected for the Facebook Community Leadership Programme.

The founder of Youth Hub Uganda was selected from over 6,000 applications for the programme that seeks to bring together some of the brightest community leadership the world has to offer.

The programme aims at addressing needs identified by community leaders and thus, give participants the support, tools, funding and the belief to lead their communities better.

The program structured around elements of funding, networking and educational curriculum hopes to elevate the role of community leaders as a critical piece in building diverse, supportive societies that bring people closer together, despite their differences.

“Leaders in our programme achieve success through collaborative and purpose-driven approaches. We are providing these leaders with the knowledge, skills, tools, funding and support to activate their communities in new and innovative ways to promote positive and lasting impact,” says a statement on the programme site.

This year, the programme has 116 leaders from different parts of the world with eleven coming from Africa, five being Kenyans, three South Africans, a Nigerian, Senegalese and of course Lule.

“Growing up in and around underprivileged communities in Uganda, I and my colleagues started up The Youth Hub Uganda to offer skilling and empower the underprivileged youths through arts so as to enable them acquire skills to be able to acquire decent lives while reducing on the cases of drug abuse and criminality amongst the youths in our community.”
