MASAKA.

Security operatives and the administration of Bwala Secondary School in Masaka Municipality have closed the school indefinitely following reports of demon attacks on students.

The students, who spent a week demonstrating and boycotting classes, accuse some teachers of planting fetishes within the school.

The head teacher, Mr Hamza Lubowa, announced the closure of the school on Friday after a meeting with the Masaka District police commander, Mr Moses Kakiryo, the district community liaison officer, Mr Yahaya Lyagoba, teachers and a few parents who responded to his call.

“Since there have been no lessons in the past week because students refused to go to their classes, I find it more meaningful to stop them from coming to school and send those in boarding section back to their homes to give us time to put right what went wrong,” Mr Lubowa told the meeting.

He said the school will look for sheikhs to pray for the students and school to rid the place of demons.

Mr Musa Kimbugwe Lubega, one of the parents, insisted the school administration and the police should not be driven by the students’ wishes to dismiss a staff member on flimsy claims of demons.

He said the students could have developed a grudge against the school staff for some reasons.
