Security officials in Budaka District have banned Imbalu dance processions, popularly known as ‘Kadodi’, on major highways to avoid causing road accidents.

“The security committee made the decision following an increase in road accidents, mostly involving Imbalu dancers. No more processions would be allowed on highways and major trading centres,” Mr Majid Batambuze, the resident district commissioner, said.

Addressing journalists at his office yesterday, Mr Batambuze said most of the accidents are on the Mbale-Tirinyi highway.

The district has recorded 103 accidents between January and November.
This comes days after the wife of the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje was killed on the highway after one of the cars stopped suddenly on seeing Imbalu dancers.

The traffic department said during this festive period, there was unprecedented rise in accidents. According to Mr Batambuze, efforts to write to the roads authority requesting for intervention have not yielded fruit.
The spokesperson of the Uganda National Roads Authority, Mr Dan Alinage, said they received a formal request from the office of the RDC but they are yet to send a technical team to the area.
