Kampala- Police have punched holes in Maj Juma Seiko’s narrative on the Saturday night shooting at his residence in Nakasero where his guard shot two people dead.

The guard Alex Cherotik was arrested and detained at Kampala Central Police Station. He recorded a charge-and-caution statement, meaning he is likely to be charged over the shooting that claimed lives of Lameck Ogwang, the supervisor of SGA security firm, and Fred Ssembatya, a boda boda rider operating from Mengo, Rubaga Division in Kampala.
Maj Seiko defended his guard, saying he shot the deceased after they tried to force their way into his residence, probably to kill him like Maj Muhammad Kiggundu who was killed alongside his bodyguard Stephen Mukasa on November 26 in Masanafu.

However, Mr Andrew Kaweesi, the police spokesperson, dismissed Maj Seiko’s account, insisting the shooting at his home was uncalled for and described it as a case of gun misuse. “There is no way the Saturday incident at Maj Seiko’s home was related to the killing of Maj Kiggundu. It was purely gun misuse by his guard and we are going to charge him for that,” Mr Kaweesi told the media yesterday.

Maj Seiko however, asked the police to be empathetic and reflect on what any guard would do if he saw strangers forcing their way into the boss’s residence in the night.

“They should investigate but not to assume and draw conclusions very fast. That move was masterminded by Solomon Mugabi, a friend to my son,” he said.

Asked what could have been Mugabi’s motive, Maj Seiko said he had not yet established why, but added that they had had misunderstanding.
