Seven die in Gulu-Kampala road motor accident

Seven people have been confirmed dead in a motor accident Wednesday evening along Gulu-Kampala highway.

The incident happened at about 7:30 pm on Torchi bridge a short distance from Palenga trading in Bobi Subcounty Omoro district. 

A speeding Toyota Noah registration number UBD 227C heading to Lira district from Gulu Municipality had a head-on collision with two motorcyclists before it veered off the road. 

The car driven by a yet to be identified driver reportedly left Gulu Municipality from Cerelenu stage in Pace division along Gulu-Kampala highway with the occupants whose number is not yet known. 

The Omoro District Chairperson Mr Douglas Peter Okello told Daily Monitor that six people died on spot while the seventh person died from Lacor Hospital where police had rushed her for treatment.

The Aswa River region Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema in a message sent via WhatsApp to journalists in the region confirmed the incident but couldn't divulge details. 

"A fatal accident along Gulu-Kampala highway at Palenga torchi bridge just this evening, details to follow. Death registered and injuries, victims rushed to hospitals while the dead bodies are being taken to Gulu regional referral Gospital mortuary.. what a tragedy," reads his message.
