Hundreds of households in Adjumani and Moyo districts are facing a severe water shortage as the dry spell reaches its peak in West Nile.

The sub-region usually experiences a dry spell in the months of November, December, January, February and early March, forcing women and children to endure cold nights as they look for clean water at congested water points.
In Adjumani, the most affected villages are Forua, Biyaya, Central I, Abirichaku, Central II, and Surumu, that share one borehole.

But the town clerk, Mr Samuel Lagu, said the situation would be rectified soon, once the testing of the new pump is complete.

In Moyo, the situation is equally dire with Lowi Quarters, Besia, Elenderea and Celecelea West and East villages the most affected.

However, the chairperson of the urban water project, Mr Alfred Mawa, blamed the residents for cutting down trees near the protected water sources.
