Six people killed in 6 days in Kigezi

Kampala. Violent crime has hit Kigezi Sub-region where six people have been stabbed or shot dead in the last six days in Kisoro, Rubanda and Rukungiri districts.
The latest incident happened on Christmas Day when unknown assailants waylaid Banabas Nteziyaremye, 45, a resident Mugwata cell Rukongi parish in Kisoro District on his way home and stabbed him in the head.

The Kigezi spokesperson, Mr Elly Mate, said Nteziyaremye’s body was found lying in a pool of blood at around 11:30pm by locals who were returning from a night out.
“The locals notified the police and our officers visited the scene. The postmortem confirmed he was cut severally on the head and we are now collecting clues that could lead us to the suspects,” Mr Mate said.

This incident came a day after gunmen intercepted Erasmus Sekanoheri, 20, and shot him dead.
Police said the killers trailed Sekanoheri and shot him as he approached his residence.
“We believe these were not just thieves but thugs assigned to kill him. They did not take his motorcycle or his wallet,” Mr Mate said.
Sekanoheri was a resident of Tukoro village, Nyakabingo parish in Kisoro District.

In a similar incident, police in Rubanda District have arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly killing his son. The suspect, also a resident of Rwencuncu cell, allegedly stabbed Doroviko Muhoozi, 25, over demanding Christmas money from him.
Mr Mate quoting, the residents accounts, said the deceased travelled from Kampala and went to his father’s home and tasked him to provide money he would spend on his Christmas needs.

In another incident, police in Rubanda are investigating circumstances under which a 35-year-old man allegedly killed his 32-year-old wife. The suspect, a resident of Sebeya village, Kisangi parish, Bufundi Sub-county, allegedly murdered Monica Kyarisima after a quarrel.
“We visited the scene and we have since launched a hunt for the husband. We have recorded his cases,” Mr Mate said.

Police in the same district are also hunting a 29-year-old man who is accused of killing his 18-year-old friend after a disagreement. The suspect allegedly killed Nicholas Turyahebwa after a quarrel that arose at a drinking joint.

“The deceased left the bar and went to the suspect’s home to report him to his mother. The accused emerged from nowhere and hit him with a stick,” Mr Mate revealed.
