Six remanded, 22 fined over reckless riding in city

Buganda Road Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday convicted and fined 22 boda boda riders charged with careless riding around the city.
The suspects appeared before three Grade One Magistrates; Ms Joan Aciro, Ms Sanyu Mukasa and Pamela Ocaya. They pleaded guilty to three counts which included using uninsured motor cycles, riding without a valid driving permit and careless riding.
Subsequently, the three trial magistrates sentenced them to pay fines between Shs 250,000 and Shs 700,000 respectively.
The same court also remanded to Luzira prison six bada boda cyclists who also pleaded guilty to the above charges. Their sentences could not be delivered due to time constraint.
Prosecution states that on January 13 at clock tower along Entebbe road, Ben Kiwanuka Street and Yusufu Lule roads in the city. The suspects were found riding motor cycles without the necessary documents as required by the Traffic Laws, while others were riding carelessly without due consideration to other road users.
