Slain journalist’s husband charged with murder

GULU. The husband to the slain Journalist, Scovia Anena, has been charged with murder and remanded to Gulu Central prison.
Kenneth Okumugoro (suspect) was charged before Gulu Magistrates court presided over by the Grade one magistrate Selsa Biwaga.
Okumugoro was arrested mid this month after the decomposing body of his wife, Anena was found in their rented room in Layibi division, Gulu Municipality Koro quarters.

The deceased, a freelance journalist with Gulu based radio station, Favor FM was said to be six months pregnant.
According to preliminary investigations by Police, Okumugoro is said to have had a hand in his wife’s murder. At the time of his wife’s death, Mr Okumugoro was reportedly in Pader district where he works as a private security guard.
While presiding over the case, the grade one magistrate, Biwaga read the murder charges to the suspect before remanding him. Mr Okumugoro was not allowed to take plea on grounds that his case is grave and can only be heard by the high court which has the jurisdiction to try capital offences.

The magistrate also told Mr Okumugoro that he was free to apply for bail since it’s his constitutional right as a suspect.
Mr Okumugoro, is expected to reappear before the same court on July 10 for mention of his case.
Related murder charges
On March 13th this year, Gulu Grade One Magistrate Paul Owino charged Mr Emmanuel Zole a veterinary Doctor who was working in Pader district with Murder of his wife Ms Lilian Tadusia.
Ms Tadisia was the Assistant Administrative Officer Adjumani district.
Since the beginning of the year, a total of nine murder cases have been reported at Gulu central Police station.
