Social media platforms have been hit with somber posts and updates as journalists, friends and relatives mourn the death of NTV journalist Ms Namawejje Resty, and Miss Tourism Northern, Norah Atim.

The two ladies died on Saturday afternoon in a motor accident at Maya, Mpigi district on Mbarara- Kampala highway. According to one of the survivor’s, Mr Lawrence Ogwal, a journalist with Daily Monitor, the two ladies died on a spot when the car they were travelling in swerved off the road and over turned.

Mr Ogwal narrates that the car, A prado reg no UAM, 670B went on “spitting out” one person after another, leaving him, Norah and Resty (both deceased). He also adds that the driver was left in critical condition. Mr Ogwal however cannot locate the rest of the people who were with him in the car; “I think they are okay,” he says with doubt.

By 4pm, social media had already begun flooding with somber messages and the different social media accounts of the deceased filled with heart breaking messages;

Edward Nimusima: I remember you from our conversation this morning at the Ministry of Tourism offices, in the parking lot, under the shade. You came to where I stood, looking stunning in your designer shades. You smiled when you saw me and unpacked your takeaway. You had lamented how the katogo was fake and they had given you only one piece of meat. Eric had walked by and asked the price of the katogo and you had laughed hard. You had asked me whether I am going to Mbarara, too, and I had said I was going to Fort Portal. Most of the guys were going to Mbarara and I had envisioned the fun you were going to have. Fast forward, we had Whatsapped in our group and it was all fine. You couldn't wait to reach Mbarara and roam the night. You never reached, sad. I hope you reached in heaven. Rest In Peace, Resty.
Resty was a reporter from NTV. Died in an accident this afternoon with two other girls bound for Mbarara.

Journalists on Whatsapp
Innocent Nabaasa of WBS: True, it’s good to believe in the power of prayer, in the morning I changed my mind about going, at around 12, I decided to go but car was full, I got on bus. I had almost the same dream last night, I woke up and prayed, I was going to die, I am freaking out.

Eddie Nimusima of Vision group: Life! Was supposed to travel to Mbarara, too, but went to Fort Portal instead. I had Resty at the Ministry. We were laughing and cracking jokes. She had bought katogo and she was lamenting how they gave her one piece of meat. She is gone!

Steven Odeke of Vision group: Resty shouldn’t have gone. We were to board same car to Mbarara. Take same seats like we took last weekend in Mbarara. I changed my mind from the ministry offices and decided to travel with Miss Teen’s crew. We were chatting sidebar on our way to Mbararara.....vowing to catch up Mbarara night life. Now she’s gone- Talked to her this morning on phone. And now here I called and no one was picking.....

Sheilla Gashumba of NTV : Poor Resty, She was really hardworking, very humble and down to earth, I really feel bad that she is gone The other day We walked into NTV together and she told me how she liked my dress, RIP.

Bigs Onen, a video producer: Norah was so devoted to this Miss Tourism Pageant, I hope she is honoured.

The deceased died on their way to Mbarara for the Miss Tourism pageant, may their souls rest in peace.
