The Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, has turned down a request by the executive director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Ms Jennifer Musisi, to stop investigations into the transactions of the authority.

Ms Musisi had on February 7 and 8 written to Ms Kadaga, questioning the mandate of the Public Service and Local Government Committee, which is currently investigating dealings of the authority.

She claimed in the letter that some members on the Public Service Committee were heckling her and are biased.

But Ms Kadaga in a meeting with the committee chairperson, Ms Florence Kintu, on Tuesday reportedly said Parliament is an independent institution and must be left to do its work without any interference.

“The Speaker has asked the committee to continue with its work and we are actually meeting Ms Musisi this Friday. Parliament authorised us to investigate KCCA,” Ms Kintu said.
