Kayunga: Outgoing Lugazi Diocese Bishop Mathias Ssekamanya has asked Christians in Kayunga District to pray for him as he starts his retirement, which he said is not easy.
Bishop Ssekamanya, who has been at the helm of Lugazi Diocese since 1996, will soon be leaving office after retiring early this year.
Addressing Kayunga Parish Christians at the weekend Bishop Ssekamanya said: “I know I will be happy in my retirement but pray for me as I enter another phase of my life. It has been an exciting journey for me.”
The bishop, who received a retirement package of Shs2.5m and a cow warned residents in Kayunga District against believing in witchcraft, something, which he said was hindering development of the area.
Bishop Ssekamanya asked leaders in the district to guard church land jealously from encroachment saying: “The land belongs to them.”
Lands State minister Aidah Nantaba reported to the bishop that leaders in Kayunga District were involved in land grabbing and vowed to stop the vice.
