State granted time to complete Gulu attack investigations

Kampala- The army is still investigating allegations about the failed attack on Gulu Army Detach and Central Police Station, prosecution has said.

More than 14 people, among them three junior soldiers of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), were last month remanded to prison in connection with the attack on the security facilities leading to death of security personnel and injuring others.

Maj Raphael Mugisha, the prosecutor, yesterday told the General Court Martial at Makindye that they needed more time to complete the investigations into the case.

The accused persons were charged before the Military Court on offences of treachery and offences relating to security in connection with the botched attack on Opit Army Barracks and Central police station in Gulu District.

However, the group which denied all the charges appeared before the Court chaired by Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti for mention. They were further remanded until September 26.

Prosecution Case
Prosecution alleges that on May 27, with intent to prejudice the security of the country, the group infiltrated and attacked the defence forces at Opit Army Detach in Gulu.

The State also alleges that On June 12, the same group with intent to prejudice the security of the defence forces attacked Central Police Station in Gulu District.

It is also alleged that on May 27, with malice aforethought, the suspects unlawfully caused the death of Pte Odongo Alphonse Ojara and Okullo Haggai at Opit Army Detach in Gulu.
