Bugiri- The Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, has urged various Muslim sects in Uganda to unite, saying there is no need for what he termed as fratricidal bickering and fights that they have been embroiled in for quite some time now.

“According to the Holy Koran, all Muslims are brothers and sisters. All of us believe in Allah and we all follow Prophet Muhammad. Why then don’t we forget our differences and unite? Why do we fight each other?” he asked.

Mufti Mubajje made the call on Sunday while opening the Cemal Usta Mosque Bukaye in Kapyanga Sub-county, Bugiri District.
The mosque that cost $35,000 (about Shs126million) was constructed by Pearl Humanitarian Relief Initiative, with assistance from the Turkey-based Deniz Feneri project.

Sheikh Mubajje said Islam is a religion of peace and that it is for that very reason that all sects must unite and fight against the enemies of Islam.

He hailed the government of Turkey and other Turkey-based NGOs for helping them with the construction of mosques and schools and donating scholastic materials to Muslim students.

The country director of Pearl Humanitarian Relief Initiative, Dr Muhammed Nsubuga, said the initiative, which operates in Kibuku, Luweero, Buikwe and Bugiri districts, was launched in 2013 to help construct mosques and improve education and health infrastructure and help vulnerable communities.
