Stray elephant kills one in Kamwenge

Residents of Kyakabengo village, Buhanda Sub County in Kamwenge District on Sunday woke up in shocking news of losing their fellow to a stray elephant.

The OC CID Kamwenge District Mr Alfred Akankwatsa identified the deceased as Gilbert Rwosire, 52, who met his death on the way from booze.

According to residents, Rwosire was on his way from Omukashojo trading center in Mahyoro Sub County when he met a rogue elephant that brought his life to an end.

“The deceased made an alarm as he was being attacked by the stray elephant and the people who had come for his rescue fled on realising it was an elephant attacking him,” one of the residents who preferred anonymity said.

The elephant allegedly strayed from the nearby Queen Elizabeth national park on Friday

Mr Akankwatsa promised to table the matter to the security committee meeting and again talk to Uganda wild life Authority to pave a way forward.
