Court in Kampala has freed on bail, a student accused of sending love messages to a female MP.

Buganda Road Court grade one magistrate Stella Amabilis on Friday ordered the release of Brian Isiko on a cash bail of Shs1million and bonded his sureties at Shs5 million, not cash.

Isiko had appeared before court for fresh plea-taking after the High Court on Thursday quashed his conviction and a two-year jail term that had been handed to him by Buganda Road Grade one Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.

Isiko is accused of sending the love messages to Kabarole District woman MP Sylvia Rwabwogo.

Shortly after court proceedings, Isiko’s mother was seen in tears as she pleaded for help to raise the bail money.

Ms Racheal Nakamya said she was a single mother and could not afford to raise the Shs1m that court had ordered.

“Please help me like you did last time. I’m a single mother and cannot afford the money court has asked me before they release my son,” Ms Nakamya lamented as she left the court room where her son had just pleaded not guilty to charges of cyber harassment and offensive communication.

He will return to court on October 29, 2018 for trial.
