Student, boyfriend remanded for staging own kidnap to get ransom from her mother

- Last month, another woman Mariam Uwase was also arrested for faking own kidnap.
KAMPALA- Court in Kampala has remanded a 19-year-old student for staging her own kidnap with the intention to extort money from her mother.
The suspect Peace Ansiimirwe, a resident of Bushenyi-Ishaka in Bushenyi District on Tuesday appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Samuel Kagoda and denied the charges.
She is facing three counts ranging from demanding property with menaces, conspiracy to commit a felony and obtaining money by false pretence.
Ansiimirwe was charged alongside her alleged boyfriend, one Julius Atwebembire who also denied the charges before he was remanded.

Prosecution states that on the April 23 at Kasubi, Rubaga Division in Kampala, the duo with menaces or force demanded Shs 3 million from one Scovia Nahabwe who is Ansiimirwe’s mother with intent of stealing the said money.
It is further alleged that the duo conspired and with menaces demanded Shs 750,000 from Nahabwe falsely pretending that the money in question was to be used to rescue Ansiimirwe from the kidnapers whereas not.
The magistrate adjourned the case to May 18 for mention.
Ansiimirwe is not the first woman to be arrested for staging own kidnap.
Still last month,
for allegedly staging her own kidnap with intent to extort money from her boyfriend.
Mariam Uwase, reportedly faked her own kidnap to extort money from her boyfriend who’s allegedly mean.
Using a magic voice service, Uwase made teary calls to her boyfriend on different phone numbers claiming she was in the hands of abductors who had threatened to kill her if he did not send Shs 25 million ransom.
The man sent the “kidnappers” Shs700,000 as a commitment that he would send the balance later.
He then reported the case at Lugala Police Station.
After a few days of negotiations with the alleged abductors, Old Kampala Police launched a rescue mission which ended with her arrest.
