BUDUDA: The Bududa District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Mr Fredrick Ssemwongere has instituted a committee to investigate the Bumayoka Sub County chief over allegations of corruption, abuse of office and causing financial loss to government.

Ms Lydia Betty Bikhole, earlier last week was arrested on allegations of stealing three heifers that were meant to be distributed to farmers under Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).

The official is also accused of stealing Shs3.5m youth livelihood funds meant for Lwangoye youth group, a number of beehives and medical drugs worth millions of shillings.

Mr Semwogere, said the committee will be headed by Mr Samson Nasamba, his principal assistant secretary. Others include District Engineer and Internal Auditor.

“They have started investigating the matter and I am waiting for the report before I take action,” said Mr Semwogere.

However, the Bududa LC5 Chairperson, Mr Wilson Watira dismissed CAO’s allegations that he has set up a committee to investigate the implicated official.

“There is a foul play around. What I know CAO has not set up any committee to investigate the Sub County chief,”Mr Watira said, adding that CAO has for long been reluctant to institute a committee to carry out investigations.

“I what to tell you that it’s the government officials like this CAO and his juniors failing us in this district. The CAO has been protecting the accused over unknown reasons,” he said.

The area district Councillor, Mr David Mayeku Musene said the suspect should be interdicted to send a strong message to other civil servants involving in corruption and misuse of government funds intended to fight poverty.
