Kampala- Two police officers and several boda boda cyclists were knocked yesterday as they chased four suspected robbers on Gayaza Road.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Ibin Ssenkumbi, said one suspect was killed and three others were detained at Kawempe Police Station.
The fracas started at about 9:30am when cyclists were seen in Kalerwe, a Kampala suburb, chasing a car claiming that the occupants were robbers.

“Police officers were informed and they stopped the car so that we could establish whether he was innocent or not, but he just sped off. Our officers became suspicious and pursued the suspects using motorcycles,” Mr Ssenkumbi said.
When the suspects reached Kanyanya, they got stuck in traffic jam as the officers closed in on them.

“The driver reversed his car thus knocking two police officers. He continued driving and knocked cyclists and passersby before he lost control of the car,” Mr Ssenkumbi said.

Witnesses wanted to lynch him but police officers rescued him from the mob.
