Taxi operators block Nsangi boss from resolving woes

A group of taxi operators in Masaka District have rejected efforts by the chairperson of Nsangi Town Council to resolve a dispute among its leaders, arguing that the matter was already before court.
Hajj Abdul Kiyimba, also the national police and community coordinator, was sent to Masaka on Wednesday by the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura to resolve the wrangle involving Masaka United Taxi Drivers and Operators’ Cooperative (MUTDOCS).
Members accuse the cooperative’s leadership of misappropriating about Shs400 million of the group’s Sacco funds.
In a meeting organised by Mr Kiyimba at Hotel Brovad, Mr Robert Sserunjogi, a member of MUTDOCS, presented a document indicating that the matter was already before court and urged all members in attendance to leave the premises.
Mr Elias Masimbi, a driver, referred to Article 73, Section 15 of the association’s constitution which states that members will go to court if the association funds are being misused by its leaders.
Some members also threatened violence against the Nsangi Town Council boss and accused him of conspiring with MUTDOCS leadership to defraud the group.
Hajj Kiyimba left the meeting and later addressed journalists at Nyendo Town.
“I really meant to help them get to a solution. I am not interested in their money. I used my personal funds to hire the premises where the meeting has been. I even regret why I ventured to help out,” he said.
