Teacher arrested over theft of phones

A primary teacher in Bukedea District has been arrested over allegations of theft.
The female suspect aged 28 is a teacher at Okunguro primary school is said to have stolen two Itel phones belonging to her colleagues.
Mr Emmy Lorika, DPC Bukedea District said the arrest was effected after mediation to recover the phones from the suspect failed.
“The school Head teacher called us after all attempts to recover the stolen phones failed ," he explained.
Mr Lorika said it is a strange matter, adding it is the first of its kind to be registered for a teacher to engage in theft.
The school’s head teacher, Mr Washington Olupot said the stolen phones belonged to student teachers.
"The college students had gone to pick topics , on returning they found the two phones and students wallets missing," he said , adding that by the time the students exited the staff room, it was the suspect who only remained behind.
Mr Olupot added that upon being interrogated at Police, the suspect produced the phones but denied picking money from bags belonging to the student teachers.
