Three die in Rakai road accident

RAKAI- Three people have died in a road accident on the Rakai –Kibale road in Rakai District.

Police identified the deceased as Imelda Namayanja, a resident of Nyendo, a Masaka town suburb and Justus Mukasa. The third person who died was not identified.

The accident occurred at Kiyonza Village, in Byakabanda Sub -County, Rakai District at about  10:30am on Tuesday when a truck Reg. No. UAN 215 P, carrying bananas veered off the road   and rolled several times.

Mr David Kato, who was at the accident scene said the driver of identified as Joseph Kakooza lost control of the truck.

Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Lameck Kigozi, said police with the help of resident rushed the driver and two other traders to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

 “Police banned the transportation of people on trucks but many drivers in Masaka Sub- region are still violating this order,” he said.

This is the second road accident to be reported in Masaka Sub- region in less than one week.

At the weekend, five pupils of Bigasa Primary School in Bukomansimbi District were involved in an accident while travelling from a football match in Misanvu Town.
