Three perish in Hoima accident

Three people have died and ten others sustained injuries in an accident that occurred along the Hoima -Fort portal road last night. 

According to eye witnesses, a taxi registration number UAV 087Y which was transporting passengers from Kibaale district, rammed into a tractor which was loaded with sugar cane belonging to Hoima sugar factory. 

The accident occurred at about 8pm at kikuube trading centre in the newly created Kikuube district.  

"Two people died on spot while another one was pronounced dead upon reaching Hoima hospital," the Albertine regional police spokesperson Mr Julius Hakiza said. 

Police has identified the deceased as Isaka Ayesiga Tonny, 32 a driver of the taxi, Bagonza Mathias, 45 and Naiga Immaculate, 28 a resident of Kijungu cell in Hoima town who died on arrival at Hoima regional referral hospital. 

He said the injured passengers were rushed to different health centres and clinics for treatment. By press time, police had not yet released the list of the casualties.  

According to police's preliminary inquiries, most passengers in the taxi were residents of Hoima district who were returning from a burial in Kibaale district.  

Police inquiries are Still going on to establish the cause of accident. 

The vehicles which were involved in the accident have been towed from the scene to Kiziranfumbi police post.
