Nation Media Group yesterday appointed an interim group editorial director following the retirement of Mr Joe Odindo after six years at the helm of East Africa’s largest media house.
Mr Linus Gitahi, the group chief executive officer, said in a statement that Mr Tom Mshindi, the chief operating officer, would take over as group editorial director in acting capacity. “I wish to make the following interim appointment to ensure business continuity at this time when we all need to focus fully on managing the business and ensuring that we deliver on targets,” Mr Gitahi said.
He added that Mr Mshindi would “continue executing other roles in his portfolio except oversee the commercial operations of the subsidiaries in Tanzania (Mwananchi Communications), Uganda (Monitor Publications) and Rwanda (Nation Holdings Rwanda”, which will directly be managed by his [Mr Gitahi] office.
Mr Mshindi, an accomplished journalist, rose to become the managing editor of Daily Nation, a position he held for nine years, before leaving for UN but later rejoined NMG as managing director of the Ugandan subsidiary before becoming head of the Nation Newspapers Division in 2009.
