KAMPALA.

Police have returned Kamwenge Town Council mayor, Godfrey Byamukama, to Nalufenya, a notorious police detention centre located in Jinja District.

Mr Byamukama was recently arrested in connection to the murder of former police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his driver Godfrey Wambewo and and bodyguard Kenneth Erau on March 17, 2017.

Mr Byamukama has since beginning of this week been admitted at Nakasero hospital with serious wounds he allegedly sustained from police torture at the detention centre.

Mr Asan Kasingye, the police spokesperson told this reporter that Mr Byamukama was discharged from the hospital yesterday and taken back to Nalufenya detention where he had allegedly been subjected to inhumane treatment that could see him become disabled for the rest of his life.

“It true he was taken to Nalufenya but he will be coming back to the hospital for medical reviews,” Mr Kasingye said.

Police said Mr Byamukama was arrested on April 5 by the police from the Ministry of Lands office along Parliament Avenue in Kampala.

His arrest came after interrogation of two suspects, Hassan Tumusiime and Abubaker Ntende who reportedly revealed that Byamukama was one of the masterminds of the trio’s killing.

However, Mr Byamukama was not among the 13 suspects arraigned before court on April 21. It was later revealed that Mr Byamukama had been whisked to Nakasero Hospital by police after realizing that his condition was deteriorating.
