A boda boda cyclist and his two passengers died on the spot after they were knocked by a fuso truck on New Year’s Day in Namayingo District.
The accident, according to the Busia Traffic Officer, Mr Charles Drabo, occurred at Nabahenye Kalitusi - 6km from Busia along the Bugiri Busia highway - on New Year’s Day at about 8pm.
He identified the dead as Grace Ndyanabo, a Senior Five student of Busia Forward SS, Anna Mary Akello, a resident of Mutumba Sub-county in Namayingo District, and Anthony Wejuli the boda boda cyclist and resident of Hawadunga.
He said the accident occurred when the boda boda rider tried to turn from the highway to join Buwumba road, where he was taking the two passengers.
The traffic officer said the motorcyclist did not take note of the truck that was coming from behind while the driver of the truck that was carrying maize to Busia market “must have been speeding and did not mind about the motorcycle rider and his passengers”.
Mr Drabo said the unidentified driver took the car to Busia Police Station and disappeared without reporting the accident.
“Police are hunting for him to answer charges of reckless driving,” Mr Drabo said.
