MBARARA. Police in Mbarara have arrested two crime preventers attached to Nyakaizi police post for allegedly killing a 32-year old man.
Francis Twesigeomwe was pursued from his home by two crime preventers supported by a police officer at around 7 am on Saturday forcing him into River Rwizi where they allegedly stoned him to death.
Mbarara District Police Commander Jaffar Magyezi said they have arrested the crime preventers and launched a search for Twesigomwe’s body in the water. However, for some unclear reasons, the accused police officer has not yet been arrested.

“We assure the public that there is nobody above the law, no matter who you are. We have taken statements of the residents and two crime preventers are already in our custody to help us in the investigation. We are yet to find the body, but we shall investigate and come to the bottom of this matter,” said Mr Magyezi.
Ms Jovanice Nakafero, wife to the deceased, told police and residents of Nyakaizi cell that two crime preventers and a police officer chased her husband from the bathroom early in the morning as he was taking a shower, stoned him to death and left his body in water.

Twesigomwe had allegedly assaulted a neighbour’s shamba boy over allegations that he was trying to rape his wife.
He was taken to police and asked to pay Shs 200,000 for their treatment. However, the neighbour reportedly demanded for more Shs 300,000.
Ms Nakafero said her husband was being harassed to pay the money which he didn’t have.

The crime preventers and the police officer had reportedly been sent to demand for the money from the deceased.
