Two dead, 19 injured in Rukiga accident

RUKIGA- Two people died on spot while nineteen others sustained serious injuries on Saturday morning when the driver of the vehicle they were traveling in failed to negotiate a sharp corner.

The accident that happened at Kakatunda trading center along the Mbarara-Kabale road, involved a taxi registration number UBB 883V.
According to one of the survivors, the accident was caused by too much mist that led to poor visibility, thus making it too difficult for the driver to see ahead.

The Kigezi regional police spokesperson, Mr Elly Maate, said that the accident happened at around 5am as the taxi was transporting passengers from Mubende to Kisoro District for burial.

Mr Maate identified the deceased as Charles Manikuze 38 and Lawrence Bagaruye 60.

He identified the injured as; Richard Bonye 26, Elimy Tuzinama 37, Isiah Habizimana 25, Alex Kwasibwe 23, Mbonamurama Yahaya 39, Steven Mugisha 36, Joseph Friday 30, Alfred Byamukama 26, Michael Ngibarikuhe 29, Patrict Maniraguha 26, Deo Ngirubabariha 52, George Nsabimana 20, Specioza Arigamire 25, Robiina Mwamituzo 29, Jovan Arituha 7 month, Anold Aribiiza 1, Isaac Hakizimana 12, Julius Nzeyimana 9 and the driver only identified as George.

Mr Maate said that all the victims are residents of Maya cell, Rubimbiri parish in Kasambya Sub County, Mubende District.
