Students of Soroti Secondary School are slated to miss the school opening day on Monday as two head teachers pull ropes over who should assume the leadership of one of the oldest schools in Teso.

The confusion arose after Mr J.B Opio, the former head teacher of Nyapea College in Nebbi District, reported to Soroti SS on Wednesday, after being posted by the assistant commissioner, Mr Francis Agula. This was just a week after Ms Hellen Balikweya, the outgoing head teacher, handed leadership to Mr Benson Awio.

Mr Awio, who by press time was still in Kampala collecting S.1 admission forms, told the Sunday Monitor that the Parents Teachers Association and board of governors installed him as the new head of the school, and that the new development is confusing.

In a transfer letter seen by this paper dated January 29, and signed by Commissioner John Agaba, Mr Awio was authorised to replace Ms Balikweya.

Efforts to get comments from the ministry were futile as their known phones were switched off by press time.
