Four family members were Wednesday involved in an accident that claimed two on the spot.

This was after the motorcycle they were traveling on (UDA 866V) was knocked by a trailer (KCN298F) along Nalubaale Bridge in Jinja.

The deceased have been identified as siblings - Patience Babirye and Ashraf Walulumba, while the injured are Patricia Nakato and David Kiwema - a brother and father respectively.

The accident momentarily slowed down traffic as Police called for an ambulance to take the deceased and the injured to Jinja referral hospital.

From his hospital bed, Mr Kiwema said he was taking the children from Kiyindi in Buikwe District to Bulanga in Iganga District to see their sick mother.

He added that he tried to overtake the trailer along the bridge as an oncoming car approached them.

This threatened his daughter who jumped off with the brother she was holding on to, leaving them at the mercy of the trailer's hind tyres.

The police declined to comment on the matter, promising a detailed report on Thursday (today).

The driver of the trailer fled the scene and a manhunt is underway.
